Description

Birdly is a VR flight simulator that puts players in the body position of a bird. You lean forward on a padded platform, arms outstretched, wearing a VR headset. Flap your arms to gain altitude, tilt to steer, dive to pick up speed. The platform tilts and shifts with your movements, adding physical feedback to the sensation of flight.

The system runs a library of experiences ranging from 2 to 4 minutes. Some are pure exploration—soaring over New York City, gliding through the Alps. Others add light gameplay elements like collecting rings or racing through checkpoints. All are built around the core mechanic of flying.

Birdly works as a spectator attraction. The player’s body position and arm movements are visible to the crowd, and external monitors show the first-person view. One operator can manage up to four Birdly units running in parallel, which helps throughput in venues where floor space allows for multiple installations.

The system has been installed in museums, science centers, airports, theme parks, and family entertainment centers since 2015. It fits venues looking for a single-player attraction that draws attention and works for all ages. The 81-square-foot footprint and need for an attendant mean it’s a dedicated station, not a high-turnover game.

Manufacturer SOMNIACS offers custom branding and content development services. Venues can commission branded experiences or integrate sponsor messaging into the content library. U.S. distribution and support is handled by Barron Games.

Review from Bob Cooney's 2022/2023 VR Arcade Game Buyer's Guide:

Birdly

Birdly is a product that amazed people when it first showed up on the scene in 2017. In the early days of VR, it sustained a highticket price point, but the experience hasn’t evolved much. It’s a single-player system that requires an attendant, so the economics have always been sketchy. It’s done well at VR-centric locations like Two Bit Circus in Los Angeles.
