Description

VR Agent is Sega’s coin-operated VR shooting cabinet. It’s a rail shooter—think Time Crisis in VR—built for unattended operation in arcades and family entertainment centers.

The hardware innovation is the integrated gun-headset. The VR headset mounts directly to the gun controller, so players aim by looking. This eliminates cable tangling, simplifies onboarding, and reduces failure points. Players lift the gun to start, and it auto-lifts at the end of each session for fast turnover.

The game is a five-mission campaign. Players work through four escalating missions before a final boss level. Weapon variety keeps the loop interesting, and the difficulty curve is designed for accessibility—easy to start, hard to master. A continue feature lets players pay to pick up where they left off, which drives deeper engagement and repeat revenue.

Content comes in two modes. Standard mode features realistic human enemies. Robot Mode replaces them with androids for family-friendly venues. Either way, it’s less intense than most zombie shooters.

The cabinet runs on two 50-inch vertical screens—one for each player station when linked, or dual spectator displays in single-cab mode. LED edge lighting and an illuminated header make it visible on the floor. Up to two cabinets link for co-op play.

Game length averages 4.5 minutes per credit. Total play time across all missions is 23 minutes if a player continues through to the end. Footprint is 91.5 square feet per cabinet.

VR Agent launched in November 2021. It’s developed by 3MindWave and distributed by Sega Amusements International. US operators work with Sega directly for support.

Review from Bob Cooney's 2022/2023 VR Arcade Game Buyer's Guide:

VR AGENT

Sega’s first entry into VR is a product developed by 3MindWave, an arcade game developer in Hong Kong. They’re the company behind Sega’s driver ATV Slam, so they have experience making games for its industry. VR Agent is a rail shooter brought to VR. Think Time Crisis. The innovation of VR Agent is they integrated a gun into the headset. At first glance, I couldn’t see how that would work for the player. But once I played it, I realized its genius. Expect to see companies copying this feature because it just works.

Since players always look where they are shooting (unless they’re John Wick), having the gun integrated with the headset makes sense. And it eliminates several problems with unattended VR arcade cabinets. First, it makes it easy to onboard people. Players don’t have to juggle the gun and the headset. It also reduces the number of cables which eliminates tangling, which can be a point of failure.

The game features shooting realistic human characters, but there’s a family friendly setting that replaces the human targets with androids. Regardless, it’s not as intense or violent as most of the zombie shooters out there. It’s also among the first VR games to offer a continuation feature, which lets players continue to swipe their way deeper into the game. VR Agent is worth checking out.
