The Nevada Museum of Art in Reno, in collaboration with the University of Nevada, Reno, is introducing a virtual reality (VR) exhibit of Ugo Rondinone’s “Seven Magic Mountains.” This immersive experience allows visitors to explore the iconic large-scale public art installation, located near Jean Dry Lake outside of Las Vegas, in a new and interactive way.
The VR exhibit enables attendees to experience the vibrant sculptures in their actual form and scale. Participants can virtually navigate the landscape and observe the colorful, stacked boulders while engaging with the surrounding environment and the people who visit it, all without leaving Northern Nevada. This project enhances access to this significant artwork and serves as a valuable digital preservation tool, ensuring that the installation is documented and accessible for future generations.
