Octopod has been acquired by Synthesis VR. Octopod is a content platform and operations management system for location-based VR operators. Built by Wanadev Digital in France, it runs PCVR content streamed via Wi-Fi 6E to VIVE Focus, Quest, or PICO 4 headsets.

The platform’s core feature is software-driven space reconfiguration. A single physical space can run as one 100m² free-roam arena for up to 8 players, or reconfigure into multiple smaller zones — eight individual room-scale stations, two groups of four, or other layouts — without moving hardware. Operators adjust the configuration through the software to match session size and content.

Octopod includes a master control station for supervising headsets, launching sessions remotely, and monitoring network and hardware status in real time. The system runs offline, so internet outages don’t stop operations. Game updates push automatically when connectivity is available.

The content library includes first-party titles from Wanadev and third-party PCVR experiences. Genres span co-op shooters, escape rooms, horror, puzzle, and family-friendly adventure. Operators can also commission custom game development through Wanadev.

The platform tracks session data and utilization metrics for business reporting. Headset compatibility covers the three major standalone PCVR-streaming headsets used in location-based VR as of 2025.

Octopod fits arcades, family entertainment centers, and similar commercial VR venues running multiplayer PCVR content on headsets rather than backpack PCs.
