Fuji TV Turns Its Run for Money Game Show Into a TV Show VR Attraction for Overseas Rental

Players in VR headsets run across a TV game-show studio set built as a city street, with studio cameras and lighting around them

Fuji Television Network presented Run For Money Liminal World: Escape in VR Space at TIFFCOM in Tokyo on 29 October. The free-roam VR attraction is based on its Run for Money variety show. Fuji TV said it will rent the experience to broadcasters and businesses overseas.

Ryohei Aoki of Fuji TV’s Live Entertainment Department gave the TIFFCOM session on turning the show into a VR location-based entertainment business.

How the TV show VR attraction plays

Players are trapped in an alternate world built on the liminal space trend and must evade Hunters. Fuji TV said a conference room of about 100 square metres holds 20 to 30 players at once, in sessions of 15 to 20 minutes. Three to four back-to-back groups would put 60 to 120 players through the space in an hour.

Operators set how many Hunters appear and when. Fuji TV said this lets them ease the attraction for the elementary school students it is popular with. They can also make it harder for dedicated fans of the show.

Fuji TV tested the Hunters with a ¥1 million prize for each player who evaded them to the end. About 5,000 people applied in one week, and about 200 were chosen by lottery to play.

Overseas rental for the TV show VR attraction

Fuji TV described the rental cost as low and said it wants the rental to ease adoption alongside the show.

Another TV format reached operators in September, when X-Corp offered UK operators an English-language Traitors TV format attraction, The VR Collective reported on 25 September.

What this means for broadcasters and operators

For broadcasters, Fuji TV’s offer packages a game show as a VR product with a stated player count and session length. For operators, the rental sets the entry scale at a 100 square metre space and 20 to 30 players.
