Description

Hologram Zoo is a location-based holographic attraction developed and manufactured by Axiom Holographics. Visitors view animals and environments projected in the air as laser light. The attraction requires no headsets, and projected animals can be walked through, since they are formed from light rather than physical objects.

An installation is built from four components. The hologram tunnel measures 20 metres by 3.6 metres and stands 3 metres high, with wall treatments that give the projected environments depth rather than a flat image. Two fenced hologram enclosures, each 5 metres by 4 metres, let visitors walk around individual animals. A hologram sky roof projects animals above the group. A hologram photobooth produces downloadable photos and video.

Content is delivered as themed experiences rather than a single show. The prehistoric tunnel experience runs across five scenes and was built as a travelling show for museums, covering dinosaurs, a swamp environment and aquatic species. A north and south pole experience covers polar and ocean environments including penguins, seals, polar bears and whales. Axiom Holographics releases new hologram themes on a continuing basis and supplies seasonal content for periods such as Halloween and Christmas, along with customisable and localised assets.

The attraction is designed to run with two staff and no technical knowledge, and Axiom Holographics states that installation takes around two weeks. Sites are open or in preparation across Australia, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Poland, Denmark, New Zealand, Mexico, Malaysia, Indonesia and Bulgaria. The first European site opened in Copenhagen in September 2025. The company states it won gold at the 2024 Edison Awards and a TIME technology award in 2023. Venues suited to the attraction include family entertainment centres, visitor attractions, museums and science centres, and operators at existing sites run school field trips and birthday programmes.
