Runaway Train is a free-roam virtual reality experience for 2 to 5 players. The 45-minute session places participants aboard a hijacked locomotive on a mission to capture an outlaw. Players move through multiple train cars, using a gatling gun to destroy automated drones and engaging with puzzles that require shooting specific targets to progress. A smelting mechanic allows players to convert metal ingots into tools. The experience concludes with a confrontation against the bandit.
The environment is styled as a Wild West setting, with each train car offering distinct challenges. Players must coordinate to manage resources, eliminate threats, and solve environmental puzzles. The game runs on both PC-based VR systems (HTC Vive, Vive Pro, Vive Pro 2, Valve Index) and standalone headsets (HTC VIVE Focus 3, Meta Quest, Meta Quest 2, PICO 4).
