On 2 November 2026, Meta made Horizon OS v2.13 the last feature release for Quest 2 and Quest Pro. That version reaches every headset by March 2027. BATTLE START supplies free-roam VR games. It told arena operators on 6 November that its new software stops reaching Quest 2 from that date.
Meta’s post makes SDK v213, which matches Horizon OS v2.13, the last SDK for Quest 2 and Quest Pro. Horizon OS v2.13 starts rolling out in January 2027, UploadVR reported. Quarterly security patches and critical bug fixes continue until December 2027.
Developers can update existing Quest 2 apps and submit new ones through December 2027. New OS features and APIs released after v213 will run only on Quest 3, Quest 3S and later headsets. Meta will stop testing new releases on Quest 2. A developer that drops Quest 2 must give customers 180 days’ notice.
BATTLE START’s partner arenas still on Quest 2 will keep running the game version installed now, 2.0.4. From March 2027, BATTLE START said, any update it makes to Unity or the Meta SDK will make installing its software on Quest 2 “physically impossible”. From January 2028 it will release nothing for the headset.
“Once Meta stops supporting Quest 2, we won’t be able to deliver updates to those headsets either,” the company told operators.
BATTLE START recommends Meta Quest 3 or Pico 4 Ultra. It also points to the Quest 3S, which it called the more affordable option. BATTLE START will stress-test Meta’s VR Glasses on an arena floor before recommending them. Their cable to the battery “sounds inconvenient for games where players move actively”, it said.
For operators, a Quest 2 fleet keeps running the software already installed. New game versions from BATTLE START stop reaching it from March 2027. For content suppliers, Meta keeps accepting Quest 2 updates and new apps until the end of 2027. Each supplier sets its own Quest 2 cutoff, as BATTLE START did.
When does Quest 2 end of support start?
Horizon OS v2.13, the last feature release, rolls out from January 2027 and reaches all Quest 2 and Quest Pro headsets by March 2027. Security patches and critical bug fixes continue until December 2027.
Will Quest 2 headsets in a VR arena stop working?
No. Meta said owners can keep using the headsets, and BATTLE START said arenas on Quest 2 keep running the version they have installed.
Can developers still publish Quest 2 games?
Yes. Meta accepts new apps that support Quest 2 through December 2027 and allows updates to existing apps, but it will not test new OS or SDK releases on the headset.
What should replace Quest 2 in a free-roam VR arena?
BATTLE START recommends Meta Quest 3 or Pico 4 Ultra, or Quest 3S on a tighter budget, for its own games.
