Sega Amusements has teased House of the Dead: Reawakened, a walk-in VR attraction for arcades and family entertainment centers. Sega will reveal it in full at IAAPA Expo Orlando from 17 to 20 November 2026. Sega describes the installation as an “anchor attraction”, according to Attractions Magazine.
The teaser is a 30-second video, spotted by Arcade Heroes, built around the lines “Something is reawakening” and “Dare to experience it”. The images Sega has shared show a Gothic manor facade with a large central doorway, shuttered windows and horror-themed architectural detail.
Attractions Magazine published a specification on 30 September, crediting a Sega Amusements product page. It described a themed facade whose front door is an 85-inch display and whose two windows are 43-inch displays. Two players wear commercial VR headsets and carry weapon controllers with haptic recoil. It listed three missions, and a 2.1-channel audio system for each player. The magazine also reported that the game was built in Unreal Engine 5. UploadVR carried the same list on 1 October.
The Sega Amusements page now carries one line, “Get ready for the Reawakening,” and a link to its home page. The VR Collective checked segaarcade.com on 9 October. On 1 October Attractions Magazine added an editor’s note. The note says the article “originally included technical details attributed to a Sega Amusements product page. That page is currently not displaying any specifics and details.” The magazine reworded parts of its story, removing a working clock tower it had described. Its current wording is that the game “might have three missions and was built in Unreal Engine 5.”
Attractions Magazine said the enclosure separates what spectators see outside the manor from the VR experience inside it. Arcade Heroes, reading the teaser, said the guns look like the tethered guns on Sega’s 2022 cabinet VR AGENT, a Sega and 3MindWave collaboration.
VR AGENT shipped in 2022. In November 2024 Sega unveiled Alpha Ops VR Strike, its second VR arcade shooter for family entertainment centers. Alpha Ops VR Strike runs on Unreal Engine 5 and is an attendant-free VR experience, according to Attractions Magazine. The last all-new House of the Dead arcade release was 2018’s Scarlet Dawn, a traditional arcade shooter with no VR, UploadVR reported.
“It’s good to see big arcade manufacturers have not given up on VR,” said Bob Cooney, a VR consultant and executive director of LEXRA, the trade association for location-based XR, who began his career operating immersive location-based entertainment in 1989. “I will be interested to see if US FEC operators are willing to get behind this. It is unattended, which seems to be a requirement for FEC owners today. We have not seen a new VR arcade game from a major developer in over a year.”
The VR Collective reported in June 2024 on how Andretti’s Karting avoided the attended VR doom loop. US family entertainment centers had cut staff from their Hologate attractions as revenue fell. Players then met too much friction to start a game and walked away, which cut revenue again. Andretti’s answer ran the other way. It kept the attraction staffed, and it bought attended and unattended games side by side.
On the supply side, Cooney has argued that VR content needs an equivalent of the JAMMA standard. That standard let 1980s arcade operators swap in a new game without rewiring the cabinet.
