Game Night

Fantail Games is a mixed reality game studio in Christchurch, New Zealand, founded in September 2023 by Steven Linton. The team is small, around three full-time people, and works alongside the contract studio CerebralFix, where the founders have a background delivering commissioned games. Its titles are built for mixed reality rather than ported to it, using passthrough video so players see their own space, furniture and each other while they play.
The studio’s product is Game Night, a multiplayer party pack playable in co-op or competitive modes. It runs on off-the-shelf Meta Quest and PICO headsets, uses hand tracking rather than controllers, and adapts to the room it is played in. The collection covers seven minigames: Hungry Bunny Uppy, Fishing Frenzy, Slap-a-Martian, Penguin Pucks, Conga Combo, Final Throwdown and Rattlesnake Railroad. Activity levels can be set per group, and mixed reality means players stay aware of the room around them.
Game Night reached early access on Meta Quest in November, and is sold both as a consumer title and under commercial licence. Fantail Games licenses it for location-based entertainment venues, VR arenas, schools, libraries, hotels and retirement homes, with a vendor portal for operators. Session length is configurable from short event slots to full venue slots, and the game mix can be set per session. The studio has received support from NZ On Air.
