Cosm opens its fourth venue at 25 Cadillac Square in downtown Detroit on September 10. It has put the opening three weeks of programming on sale in one block. The published calendar runs from September 10 to September 30. Nineteen of those twenty-one days carry a ticketed event.
The venue is 70,000 square feet across three levels. It is built around an 87-foot-diameter 12K-plus LED dome. A space called The Hall carries wall-to-wall LED displays, and a rooftop bar is called The Deck. The venue anchors Bedrock’s 1.5 million square foot Development at Cadillac Square, next to Campus Martius Park. The Detroit architecture firm Rossetti designed it. It follows Cosm’s third venue, which opened in Atlanta in June 2026. Hour Detroit reported the April 2025 groundbreaking and put total capacity at around 1,500, with roughly 700 seats inside the dome. Cosm has not restated either figure in its opening announcement.
Cosm’s first ticketed event is the San Francisco 49ers at the Los Angeles Rams. NFL on Netflix carries it live from the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Australia. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in Shared Reality, produced with Warner Bros. Pictures, plays the same day. It runs as part of the entertainment slate rather than as the opening.
Cosm chose live sport, not the film, for a Wednesday night in September. The Detroit-specific dates follow within a week: Oklahoma at Michigan on September 12, and the Detroit Lions at the Buffalo Bills on September 17.
Here is what is on sale for September, from Cosm’s published slate.
Live sport: fifteen events across nine dates. NFL Week 1 on September 10 and 13, Week 2 on September 17 and 20, Week 3 on September 24 and 27. NCAA football on September 12 and 19, two games each day. The US Open men’s semifinals on September 11.
Cinema in Shared Reality: three titles across twenty-five title-dates. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone plays on fourteen dates, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory on seven, and The Matrix on four. All three share several evenings.
Live sport supplies dates set by somebody else’s schedule. Licensed film supplies the midweek nights a sports calendar leaves empty, and can be booked months out.
Cosm Detroit is the anchor tenant of a development. Announcing the deal in November 2024, Dan Gilbert, Chairman and Founder of Bedrock, said Cosm “will be the anchor of our Development at Cadillac Square, and a magnet to bring people to downtown to experience the energy and vibrance in our city.” Jeb Terry, Cosm’s President and CEO, said in the same release that “Cosm Detroit will be the always-on heartbeat of downtown.”
The site has tracked the same anchor-tenancy pattern elsewhere: LBE as a primary tenant category in retail real estate, Sandbox VR taking a ten-year Times Square lease, and Secret Cinema winning a purpose-built venue on Greenwich Peninsula.
Ticketing is tiered by seat location rather than by event. Reserved seats in the dome come with lounge booths and in-seat service. Reserved seats in The Hall come with a server and a wall of screens showing several events at once. General admission gets first-come seating in The Hall and on The Deck, plus standing room in the dome. Cosm says prices vary by event. LittleGuide Detroit, covering the opening, reports Hall seating from about $17 and dome seating between roughly $55 and $110 or more. That is the only published range we found, and it is not Cosm’s own figure.
“Cosm shows how important it is to program different dayparts for varying audiences. Harry Potter and NBA bring out different crowds, and VR arcade operators need to copy this strategy. The go-to-market strategy starts with product/market fit. For LBE venue operators, think of it as content/audience fit,” said Bob Cooney, a VR consultant and executive director of LEXRA, the trade association for location-based XR, who has led go-to-market for 16 startups. Most operators are never building an 87-foot dome, and Cosm’s Shared Reality is a big-screen format rather than a headset one. Cosm went on sale with three weeks of dates rather than an opening weekend, mixed two content types with different booking horizons.
If your venue runs one category of content, the number to look at is how many nights in your September carry nothing. The question a mixed calendar answers is what goes on a Tuesday when your core audience is not coming.
