Cosm, which runs LED dome venues in Los Angeles, Dallas, Atlanta and Detroit, signed a multi-year, multi-film partnership with Universal Film. Cosm and Universal Film announced the deal on 17 September 2026. The first title is Shrek in Shared Reality, made for the 25th anniversary of DreamWorks Animation’s 2001 film, an Academy Award winner.
Cosm calls Universal Film its second major film studio partner, after Warner Bros. Pictures.
Cosm keeps the film in its 16:9 frame at the centre of the dome. Animated surroundings fill Cosm’s 12K+ LED dome and other parts of its venues, changing as the film plays.
The surroundings include Shrek’s Swamp, Duloc’s Arena and Dragon’s Keep, with Shrek, Donkey and Princess Fiona. Cosm developed the experience with Universal Film, DreamWorks Animation and the visual effects studio Reel FX.
Shrek is the first animated film Cosm has adapted for its domes, according to Cosm. Shrek in Shared Reality “allows us to amplify the humor and irreverent charm that makes its story and characters beloved across generations,” said Alexis Scalice, head of Cosm Studios.
Cosm signed its first multi-film partnership with Warner Bros. Pictures and the immersive cinema company Little Pictures, AV Magazine reported. The partnership has produced four titles: The Matrix, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and IT. IT premiered at Cosm Los Angeles on 6 September.
Tickets for Shrek in Shared Reality go on sale this autumn at all four Cosm venues. Cosm Detroit opened on 10 September with an 87-foot LED dome.
For dome operators, Cosm adds Universal Film titles to its slate from this autumn, starting with Shrek in Shared Reality. For film studios, Universal is the second studio to sign a multi-film deal with Cosm. Universal Entertainment’s chief brand officer, David O’Connor, said the partnership “opens an exciting new frontier for our brands.”
